Radiant barrier installation in Bell County, TX
Reflective foil under the roof deck that turns back the sun's heat before it reaches your attic floor and ductwork.

Turn back the sun before it reaches the attic floor
On a summer afternoon the sun heats your roof deck, and the hot deck radiates that heat down onto the attic floor and the ductwork. Regular insulation slows heat that has already reached it. A radiant barrier works earlier in the chain: it is a reflective foil that sends much of that radiant heat back up before it lands.
In a hot, sunny climate like Bell County, that can make an attic noticeably cooler, which takes load off the AC. It helps most when ductwork runs through the attic, because those ducts are no longer sitting under a radiating roof.
A radiant barrier is not a substitute for insulation. It works best paired with the right depth of insulation on the attic floor, and we often install both in one visit.
- Foil radiant barrier stapled to the underside of the rafters
- Air gap left facing the hot roof, which the foil needs to work
- Vent paths kept open at soffits and ridge
- Blown in top up in the same visit if your attic needs it
- Free inspection and a written price before work starts
When a radiant barrier makes sense
Ducts in the attic
The biggest payoff comes when the AC ducts run through a hot attic.
Insulation is already good
If your depth is fine but the attic is still brutal, a barrier is the next step.
Hot rooms under the roof
Bonus rooms and second floors feel the difference first.
Not when foaming the roof deck
If the roof deck gets spray foam, a radiant barrier there adds little.
Usually done in a day
Inspect
We check access, ventilation and your current insulation.
Written estimate
Barrier and any insulation top up, priced together.
Install
Foil goes up on the rafters with vent paths left open.
Top up and clean
Insulation is added if needed and the attic is cleaned up.
What a radiant barrier costs
Attic size and how easy the rafters are to reach drive most of the price. Adding a blown in top up in the same visit usually costs less than doing them separately.

Radiant barrier questions
Does a radiant barrier replace insulation?
- No. It blocks radiant heat, while insulation slows heat moving through it. Most attics benefit from both.
Can you lay foil on top of my insulation?
- We do not recommend it. Dust settles on foil laid flat and it stops reflecting well. It belongs on the rafters.
Will it help in winter?
- A little, but it is mainly a summer upgrade. That is why it fits Central Texas so well.
Does it work with spray foam?
- If the roof deck gets spray foam, you generally do not need a radiant barrier there.
